Lustrous and elegant, sateen is a smooth, glossy cotton fabric specially woven to create a silky, satinlike finish. This weave hold dyes beautifully, allowing us to offer this light-catching fabric in the richest tones. Sateen is a two sided material, with one side more glossy and lustrous, while the other side is more matte. Slightly denser than percale, sateen is well suited for mid-cool weather.
Sateen is the material which allows us to best display the breadth of our beautiful dyes. The dyes we use are low-impact fiber reactive dyes. They use less water and require less heat to accomplish the dye process, and have an 80-90% bonding co-efficiency between the material and the dye, which means there is less waste to treat. Fiber reactive dyes give excellent results on cotton, and on the sateen weave in particular. This fitted sheet has a 15" deep pocket with a band of elastic all the way around the bottom to securely fix it to the mattress.
Our sateen cotton sheets range in thread count from 250-300, but in our experience someone new to the fabric typically guesses 500-800 thread count. This is due to the rich, thick fibres of the organic cotton, which is left full and healthy because it is not subjected to chemically intensive conventional processing methods. Not only do our organic growing practices produce a higher quality product, each set of queen sheets purchased from organic cotton spares the earth 1.25 pounds of agricultural chemicals, as compared to conventional cotton-growing practices in California.
